Beeswax for flat lapping

Description

Beeswax is used in combination with paraffin wax for flat lapping slabs on a flat lapping machine. One order will be a one pound block of beeswax. Please see our article listed under Lapidary Tips, entitled Flat Lapping Slabs for more instructions on use. When slabbing rough there is usually a heel left over and these are great for polishing on a flat lap machine. Also use a heel applied with the wax mixture to the slab for some weight. Slabs may be flat lapped but it is critical to get the correct weight on the slab.  If you just lay a thin slab on the lapping machine, this will not work. The slab must be heavy enough to press down on the grit & there is a recommended weight for flat lapping. A mixture of the beeswax and paraffin is ideal for this use and can be reused over and over.
